What time is Maghrib prayer?
المغرب · three fard rak'ah · from sunset until the red twilight fades
Maghrib begins the instant the sun has completely set — when the last edge of the disc has gone below the horizon, not when it merely touches it — and it lasts until the red glow in the western sky disappears. It is the shortest of the five windows, often little more than an hour.
Pray it early
Because the window is short and clearly marked, Maghrib is the prayer most tied to praying promptly. The Prophet ﷺ prayed it as soon as the sun set, and the congregational time in most mosques is only a few minutes after sunset.
Maghrib and iftar in Ramadan
The fast ends at the entry of Maghrib. The Sunnah is to break it without delay — traditionally with fresh dates and water — say the du'a, and then pray. "The people will remain upon good as long as they hasten to break the fast." (Sahih al-Bukhari 1957)
Why sunset times differ from a weather app
Weather apps usually report sunset at the moment the sun's upper edge meets the horizon, and often ignore elevation. A prayer timetable accounts for the full disc, atmospheric refraction and, where relevant, your altitude — so it can differ from a general sunset listing by a couple of minutes. When in doubt, follow your local mosque.
